Potencia
Overview
Potencia is a non-profit organization dedicated to bridging the gap between college students and adult immigrants in the Greater Boston area. By facilitating individual and group tutoring sessions, Potencia helps learners develop English language skills while fostering an understanding of American culture.
From October 2022 to May 2023, I was the UX designer leading a team consisting of one project manager, one technical lead, and ten full-stack developers.
What I did
In the first few weeks of the project, I met with the client to gather requirements and understand the problem scope. Since the app’s design had been initially started by another designer, I collaborated with them to review their original designs and understand their vision. This step was essential for ensuring my designs seamlessly integrated with their work and allowed me to build on their experience with the app. This process also helped prioritize the most critical features for the client, given the tight project deadline.
With this insight, I synthesized new requirements and refined the project scope, focusing on designing and redesigning two key features: scheduling and payment support through PayPal. While creating mid-fidelity wireframes, I maintained a consistent feedback loop with the client, project manager, and technical lead. This ensured the designs aligned with user needs and remained technically feasible.
Once my high-fidelity wireframes were finalized, I handed off the designs to the developers. I also conducted quality checks throughout development to ensure proper styling and interaction design were implemented correctly.
About the Potencia Mobile App
The Potencia Mobile Application is complete with scheduling features and payment support, allowing tutees to purchase and schedule classes directly on the app. Tutors can also manage their classes, directly chat with tutees, and track their teaching hours on the app, streamlining scheduling and communication between tutors and tutees.
