Overview

JumboHack is a 2-Day Hackathon at Tufts University hosted by JumboCode where participants design and code a solution to problem given a specific problem space.

What I did

On Day 1, I collaborated with my five developer teammates to brainstorm ideas for a problem we wanted to solve: the inefficiencies in the current CS office hours system and the support provided by teaching assistants (TAs) at Tufts. To kickstart the process, I sketched low-fidelity wireframes on a whiteboard, visualizing the ideal workflow for the web app.

Throughout the design process, I conducted quick, informal user interviews with CS teaching assistants and students to validate assumptions and understand key pain points. Once the idea and concept were finalized, I created prototypes on Figma using the Material Design library, ensuring rapid prototyping and seamless front-end implementation.

Day 2 was focused on development. My teammates brought the designs to life through front-end development and implemented backend Socket.io protocols to enable real-time updates between users and the server. After hours of intensive designing and coding, we were honored to win the Overall Most Innovative Product and the Winner on the Education Track awards!

About OfficeMinutes

OfficeMinutes is a streamlined queuing system for students to queue public or private questions, and groups up students that have similar questions during office hours. By allowing students to describe their problems with short titles, descriptions, and course-specific tags, course staff can gain a quick insight on student issues to provide the most optimal support.
